Rahvusvaheline puuetega inimeste õiguste päev

3. päevalrd 2021. aasta detsembril, rahvusvahelisel puuetega inimeste õiguste päeval, tähistas EU Trisomy 21 raames Downi sündroomiga inimeste õigusi. Sellel tähtsal kuupäeval esitasid Euroopa Parlamendi liikmed mõned poliitilised küsimused Downi sündroomiga inimestele üle Euroopa.

Selle kampaaniaga anname Trisomy 21 inimestele võimaluse tõsta häält ja rääkida oma poliitilistest arvamustest erinevatel teemadel. Inimesed, kellel on Trisoomia 21, on täielike demokraatlike õigustega kodanikud ja nende mõistmine ei ole mitte ainult oluline, vaid on ülioluline täieliku kodanikuühiskonna diskursuse jaoks, mida Euroopa Parlament peaks kuulama. Demokraatlikud institutsioonid ei ole veel valmis Trisomy 21-ga inimesi kuulama, kuid nad peaksid hakkama kohanemise nimel tööd tegema, et iga Euroopa kodanik saaks Euroopa demokraatias osaleda.
