Brussels, March 21, 2025<\/strong> – On March 19, 2025, \u0415\u0421 \u0437\u0430 \u0442\u0440\u0438\u0437\u043e\u043c\u0438\u044f 21<\/em> marked World Down Syndrome Day in the European Parliament with a powerful, two-part event titled \u201cFrom Projects to Policies: Including People with Down Syndrome in Europe.\u201d<\/strong> The day highlighted both the visibility and leadership of individuals with Down syndrome and the need for concrete EU policy action.<\/p>\n

\"\"The morning began with Coffee & Socks<\/strong>, an awareness initiative by \u0415\u0421 \u0437\u0430 \u0442\u0440\u0438\u0437\u043e\u043c\u0438\u044f 21<\/em>, hosted inside the Parliament by MEP Miriam Lexmann<\/strong>, who welcomed individuals with Down syndrome to serve coffee in the Forum and Hemicycle Bars. MEPs were invited to join for a coffee and take a photo wearing mismatched socks\u2014a global symbol of inclusion. We thank all the MEPs who stopped by to connect with our servers\u2014including President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At 11:45 AM, the event officially opened with a ceremony hosted by MEP Miriam Lexmann<\/strong>, who welcomed fellow MEPs and supporters.<\/p>\n

The afternoon conference in Room ASP 1H1<\/strong>, co-hosted byMEPs Romana Jerkovic and Paolo Inselvini<\/strong>, brought together a wide range of speakers to explore key issues around inclusion, self-advocacy, health, and EU policy. The first session was co-hosted by Antonio Rosique<\/strong> \u0438 Ivan Kos<\/strong>, and featured Fiona and Katrina Lambart<\/strong>, Dinka Vukovic<\/strong>, and MEP Katrin Langensiepen<\/strong> (TBC). The second session, hosted by Marie-Claude Potier<\/strong>, included presentations by Prof. Brigitte Fauroux<\/strong>, Pier Vincenzo Piazza<\/strong>, Guillaume Duriez<\/strong>, and MEP Ro<\/strong>mana Jerkovic<\/strong>, and concluded with remarks from Jos\u00e9 Guti\u00e9rrez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
