\"\"Brussels, Belgium<\/b> \u2014 On March 19, 2025, <\/span>EU for Trisomy 21<\/b> invited by various Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), will host a major event in the <\/span>European Parliament<\/b> to mark <\/span>World Down Syndrome Day<\/b>. This year\u2019s theme, \u201cFrom Projects to Policies: Including People with Down Syndrome in Europe,\u201d aims to foster a more inclusive Europe for individuals with Down syndrome where their opinions are taken into the European policy debates.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of broader efforts to raise awareness and engage local communities, this event will serve as a key milestone in the European Self Advocacy Project<\/strong>, UN Erasmus+<\/strong> sponsored initiative dedicated to empowering individuals with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities.<\/p>\n

Coffee & Socks<\/h3>\n

The day will kick off at 09<\/strong><\/span>:30 AM<\/b> with a special coffee service, where <\/span>waiters with Down Syndrome<\/b> will showcase their professional skills as servers for the day in the official coffee places of the European Parliament. They will be working in the Forum Bar<\/strong> (<\/span>VoxBox bar) e Hemicycle bar<\/strong> (<\/span>Mickey Mouse Cafe) in the European Parliament. <\/span>This collaboration provides a platform for people with Down syndrome to demonstrate their professional abilities to European legislators<\/strong>, highlighting the importance of employment opportunities<\/strong> and the contributions individuals with Down syndrome bring to the workforce.<\/p>\n

MEPs will also have the chance to visit an information stand<\/strong> to take a picture showing their support to Giornata mondiale della sindrome di Down<\/strong>, wearing mismatched socks, raising awareness on how people with Down Syndrome may be different but still they enrich our society.<\/span><\/p>\n

At 11:45 A<\/strong>M<\/strong>, the event will officially open with a brief ceremony with our host MEP Miriam Lexmann<\/strong> who invited various other Membri del Parlamento Europeo<\/strong>\u00a0to participate, engage with self-advocates<\/strong> e partner organizations<\/strong>, and show their support for the cause.<\/p>\n

The afternoon will be dedicated to a conference<\/strong> starting at 2:00 PM<\/strong> In Room ASP 1H1<\/strong>, focusing on key issues such as equality, health, employment,<\/strong> e self-advocacy<\/strong> for people with Down syndrome. The conference will bring together policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals,<\/strong> e self-advocates<\/strong> to discuss successful projects, research,<\/strong> e future EU policies<\/strong> that promote full inclusion, autonomy,<\/strong> e opportunities<\/strong> for people with Down syndrome.<\/p>\n
