About the Project<\/h2>\r\n

The European Union for Trisomy 21<\/p>\r\n

called EU for Trisomy 21 for short<\/p>\r\n

has partners all over Europe.<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

These partners are local organisations<\/p>\r\n

and organisations started by parents.<\/p>\r\n

These organisations want to work together<\/p>\r\n

to make the lives of people with Down Syndrome easier.<\/p>\r\n

EU for Trisomy 21 organises events<\/p>\r\n

online and in person.<\/p>\r\n

These events help raise the attention and<\/p>\r\n

people to stand up for their rights in Europe.<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

EU for Trisomy 21 has a project called ‘The Future is Ours’.<\/p>\r\n

‘The Future is Ours’ is a project consisting of three on-line<\/p>\r\n

and one in-person event between now and July 2023.<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

Members of the European Parliament<\/p>\r\n

adopted a new EU Electoral Law \u00a0in May 2022.<\/p>\r\n

This new law says that:<\/p>\r\n

every citizen in the European Union<\/p>\r\n

who is 16 years and older<\/p>\r\n

can vote for the elections<\/p>\r\n

of the European Parliament.<\/p>\r\n

This new law includes<\/p>\r\n

people with intellectual disabilities.<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

This new law is good news.<\/p>\r\n

Many countries in the European Union did not allow<\/p>\r\n

people with intellectual disabilities to vote.<\/p>\r\n

Now everyone can vote and take part in the elections.<\/p>\r\n

The European Union still has a lot of work to do.<\/p>\r\n

The European Union needs to have information in easy-to-read.<\/p>\r\n

The European Union needs to make voting accessible.<\/p>\r\n

So that everyone with an intellectual disability<\/p>\r\n

can vote in the 2024 elections.<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

Many people with Down Syndrome<\/p>\r\n

will vote for the first time.<\/p>\r\n

EU for Trisomy 21 wants to make sure that<\/p>\r\n

people with Down Syndrome are prepared<\/p>\r\n

for the elections in 2024.<\/p>\r\n

The European Union and the elections<\/p>\r\n

need to be accessible to people with Down Syndrome.<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

EU for Trisomy 21 has 4 goals:<\/p>\r\n

– Autonomy<\/strong>, to be independent and make decisions<\/p>\r\n

– Visibility<\/strong>, be seen and heard<\/p>\r\n

– Health<\/strong>, good doctors and support<\/p>\r\n

– Equal Treatment<\/strong>, respect<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

We will hear from a lot of different people:<\/p>\r\n

– Experts<\/p>\r\n

– Parents<\/p>\r\n

– People who make decisions<\/p>\r\n

– Self-Advocates,<\/p>\r\n

– People with Down Syndrome<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

Participants will have the chance to meet,<\/p>\r\n

talk and find better ideas<\/p>\r\n

to make the world a better place for<\/p>\r\n

people with Down Syndrome.<\/p>\r\n
