Lesson 4 - I will make a difference

Lesson 4 is centered on human dignity and rights. Its purpose is to help participants understand that every person has dignity simply because they are human — and that this dignity is the root of all rights. Through this lesson, participants connect their personal stories and dreams to the broader framework of human rights, recognizing that their voices can bring about change not only for themselves but also for others.

The methodology combines visual metaphors, games, and group reflection. Using a tree with roots as a model, participants see how human dignity is permanent and how rights grow from it. Flashcards on rights from the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities make these ideas concrete and accessible. Finally, participants connect their own “I want to talk about…” stories from earlier lessons to this tree, realizing that their experiences and voices have the power to influence and shape rights.

By the end of Lesson 4, participants see themselves as self-advocates who will make a difference — for their community, for other people with disabilities, and for society as a whole. They leave the course with both the confidence and the vision to continue their journey as leaders and change-makers.
